Jean-Claude Chalhoub


Jean-Claude Chalhoub was born in Egypt in 1958 to a family of insurers. His father, Henri Chalhoub, was a prominent figure in the industry, having established his own insurance Group and was one of the early major international figures to join the International Insurance Society.

After graduating with an MBA from the Paris-Sorbonne University, Jean-Claude worked for a number of major insurance organisations around the world. He then joined L’Union des Assurances de Paris (UAP), where he worked initially in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before opening two new offices in Riyadh and Dammam. He helped secure contracts with all of the country’s utility providers as well as several other government agencies, making UAP one of the largest and most reputable Companies in the nation.

 

Jean-Claude subsequently joined the family Group of insurance broking operations in France which, in a few years under his leadership, became the second largest insurance broker in France.

Jean-Claude went on to work with the Group’s Canadian Division in Montreal. He once again helped to expand the Company’s operations into Ontario and Vancouver. Under his guidance, the Group’s revenue in Canada tripled.

 

In 1987, Jean-Claude went on to open the Group’s first offices in the US, where he pioneered loss of income insurance to the impaired market, the first of its kind in the country and operating to this day in over 45 states in the US.

 

Following Hurricane Hugo in the Caribbean, Jean-Claude Chalhoub launched two separate property programs, one for the US and British Virgin Islands and the other for the French Antilles, providing much needed protection to local residents and businesses. His work then moved back to the Middle East, where he joined forces with several Egyptian insurance companies to create Inaya which is today the leading provider of health insurance products in Egypt.

 

In partnership with R+V, a German insurance company, Jean-Claude established an underwriting box at Lloyd’s which wrote un portfolio profitable de Facultative Property, Contingency and Accident & Health business until the then management of R+V retired and the successors decided to cease the outsourcing of Delegated Authorities worldwide.

 

Jean-Claude is currently Senior Partner & Member of the Supervisory Board at Risk Management, a worldwide provider of insurance and reinsurance solutions. Trading since 1987, the firm now has a presence in Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Asia and Africa.
